3. Chorley Live acts appeal
Organisers of a new two-day live music and entertainment event in Chorley are urging local performers who would be willing to take part to come forward.

Chorley Council is teaming up with the Creative Network to put on 160 live performances in 20 venues across the town centre and need local acts who want to create fantastic memories of live entertainment for people

The organisers are looking for a wide variety of musical acts including bands and solo artists covering all genres of music but there will also be other types of performances including comedians, poets, magicians and ventriloquists.

The event will see people able to gain entry into the venues using a wristband that will cost £5 enabling people to choose from over 100 live performances on a Friday and Saturday evening.

It will include a wide variety of venues including pubs, libraries, churches and restaurants and there will be something for everyone including families and young children.
The Chorley Live format will be the same concept as run in both Leyland and Penwortham by the Creative Network but on a slightly larger scale.

The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday October 4 and 5 with live performances at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm at each venue.

If you want to take part contact Chorley Council on 01257 515151 or email contact@chorley.gov.uk or contact the Creative Network direct on 07883 181978 or info@creatives-network.co.uk.

5. Memorial arch closed for restoration work
The main town centre entrance to Astley Park is now closed for up to two months to allow vital restoration work to the memorial arch.

The gated entrance, which leads into the popular park, is now blocked off by scaffolding so restoration work can take place as part of the Chorley Remembers project in the town.

The work is supported by Chorley Council, which owns and manages the park, and visitors can still access Astley Park through the entrances off Queen’s Road and the pedestrian gate on Park Road a short distance away from the main gates.

The work on the arch, which is being funded by the Heritage Lottery fund will run until August.

9. Plans for derelict site unveiled
An eyesore that has been a blot on Chorley’s town centre for the last decade will be transformed into a new set of shops to boost the southern end of Market Street under plans being put forward by Chorley Council.

The authority bought the former McDonald’s site and adjacent buildings to bring the site to life and is now advertising for businesses interested in taking one of the four new units that are set to be created.

The plan would see the end unit, adjacent to Gillibrand Street, demolished and the other buildings refurbished and split into the new units.
